EVENTS: TERRAIN Snapshot – Zagreb: Active, Shared and Digital Mobility in Focus
On 9 October 2025, the TERRAIN Snapshot on Zagreb was presented in Sarajevo, during the TERRAIN partners’ meeting held on 9–10 October 2025 in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The Snapshot showcased the sustainable mobility journey of Zagreb, presented by representatives of the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences, highlighting the main mobility challenges of the Croatian capital, including rapid motorisation, congestion, limited public space, and air-quality and safety concerns in a large functional urban region.
The presentation outlined Zagreb’s transition from car-centred to people-centred multimodal mobility, with a strong focus on public transport, active and shared modes, and digital solutions. Key measures include investments in new low-floor trams and electric buses, network expansion, and the use of smart tools such as e-ticketing, open data platforms, digital parking management and automated traffic control systems.
Active and shared mobility initiatives were also highlighted, including the development of cycling corridors, the Sava Greenway, and the launch of the “Bajs” bike-sharing system, designed to support everyday mobility and integration with public transport.
The Snapshot also addressed ongoing e-mobility developments, the preparation of a new Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP), and the role of citizen and stakeholder engagement in shaping future mobility systems.
Within the TERRAIN project, Zagreb acts as a cluster mentor city for active and shared mobility solutions, supporting knowledge exchange and the transferability of good practices across partner regions.
